Why are we getting so many new people in our fellowship here in China?

Let me explain something very simple.

After Jesus paid the price on the Cross for the sins of man, He appeared to His disciples, giving them the Great Commission, as found in Matthew 28:18-20. It is here we see Jesus commanding His followers to go into all the world, to MAKE DISCIPLES of nations and to baptize all who believe in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He told them to go and make disciples, baptising them in His teaching, thus having dominion by the principle of multiplication. It is the making of Disciples which is the fundamental operative action we need to take. Too many come to Christ and sit at the base of the Cross undisciplined.

The Great Commission came at the end of Jesus earthly ministry, following His death and resurrection and is a pinnacle of the transference of His ministry to His disciples to take the Gospel to the world.  The mandate Jesus left His disciples had a profound effect on their lives and many lives, after them. As He passed on the anointing so they also passed it on, even up until this very day.

The disciples had been profoundly impacted by Jesus’ arrest, His death on the cross, His resurrection, and followed by His miraculous appearances in physical form for forty days. They had witnessed Him preaching, doing many miracles and they had seen Him ascending. They were totally convinced of His Messiah-ship. But it was not until after Pentecost that their lives were set upon a journey of proclamation (John 21: 24-25).

Jesus commanded His followers to go into all the world to make disciples in all nations. He commanded us to baptize all who believe in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus coming up spoke to them, saying, All power has been given me in heaven and upon earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have enjoined you. And behold, *I* am with you all the days, until the completion of the age. (DARBY)

It is assumed that we are to make Christians. Christians is only mentioned three times in the New Testament, where disciple is mentioned 269 times. Thus we may conclude that making disciples it a much greater mandate, but you can only make disciple from believers.

Jesus’ instructions are

1. Get Believers
2. Make Disciples
3. Baptise them
4. Teach them

Mark 16:15 And He said to them, go into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation.16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.17 And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues; (MKJV)

Jesus is saying in Mark, that His disciples were to go into the entire world and preach good news. If Jesus is telling the truth, which He is, He is commanding all of His disciples to evangelise the world with the main focus to disciple them.  Therefore you, I, and every other believer (the church) are called to evangelise and make disciples. We are to let our light shine.

The whole purpose of missions is an attitude to reproduce and multiply and to take dominion.

Our world is going through many changes and these changes establish a new set of trends, which need to be understood in relationship to our mission. The Church still has the same Biblical mandate as set out by God and Jesus Christ “to go into all the world and make disciples, baptising in the teaching of Christ”. Nothing has changed.

Discipleship

Discipleship is a central issue after salvation for the individuals, and a key component with building a person and a cross-cultural church. The detailed importance of such a program will play a part in the longevity and effectiveness of any group of people. It will also bring major benefits to the new convert, which should be a major priority after the glorification of God. It is after the encounter with God that solidification in the faith is required through Discipleship.

A Disciple is a Scholar

The word disciple is sometimes applied to the followers of John the Baptist (Matthew. 9:14), and of the Pharisees (Matthew. 22:16), but principally to the followers of Christ. A disciple of Christ is one who believes His doctrine, rests on His sacrifice, imbibes (drinks) His Spirit, and imitates His example (Matthew. 10:24; Luke 14:26, 27, 33; John 6:69). He is a learner, a pupil, a follower and a beginner who moves towards maturity, encouraged by a mentor.

Discipleship means Mentoring Agreement

We need to look at the topic discipleship in more depth so that we, as believers can find the power of God growing in our life. Also we should look at “Mentoring Agreement” or making a covenant-type agreement with a senior person in the faith, and the power of such agreement (Hebrews 13:17). Notable mentoring relationships in the Bible are Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, David and Solomon, Barnabas and Paul, Paul and Timothy, Naomi and Ruth, Deborah and Barak, Elizabeth and Mary and Jesus and His disciples. Following is a list of some Scriptures that demonstrate the need to be willing to come under a more experienced person and the Word of God for the benefit of the younger person in the Lord (Deuteronomy 34:9, Philippians 1:1-30, Titus 2:3-5, Psalm 71:18, Psalm 145:4, Ruth 1:1-22, 1 Chronicles 2:1-55, Psalm 127:1, John 3:1-36, John 10:10, Romans 1:1-32, Proverbs 22:6, 1 and John 2:1-29)

Some have become Christians and have started studying the Word of God, without coming to a place of power in their own lives, because they have not come under Godly leadership in some form of mentoring with the whole aim on being a disciple, which is quiet strange when we consider the command of Jesus to make disciples.

The purpose of our mission is to obey the Great Commission with a heartfelt unction and an attitude to reproduce and multiply and to take dominion.

The repentance pray is the easy part, Discipleship cost everything, but the reward is great.

For leaders, when your disciples are making disciples then you have done your job.

God gives a vision to an individual, who then imparts it to others. Once others have caught the vision they will be willing to work with it and enlist other too. Nehemiah, in chapter 2:11-12 rose in the night and with a few men went out to look at the city and to show them that the walls were down. He did so by using a visual example to challenge these men to look and see what he could see as burden that he received from God. Thus we now see in the passage below that the people had a mind to work.

Nehemiah 4:6 So we built the wall, and all the wall was joined together to the half of it. For the people had a mind to work. (MKJV)

God is an initiator; He births in the heart of man or women a dream, desire and a vision for things of His Kingdom, then, under the unction of the Holy Spirit men or women set off to bring that dream to fruition. The devil is a reactor and it is only after he sees the things of God happening that he tries to steal and destroy them from happening. He is always late and we need to have a resolve not to change direction because of the devil. If the plan is of God it will come to pass. Martin Luther said, “For where God built a church, there the Devil would also build a chapel…Thus is the Devil ever God’s Ape”[1]. But as I stated previously ‘when a conflict occurred that in some cases caused a positive movement forward in Biblical theological understanding, albeit to be realised in a later generation of theologians’. But it may also be a set of outdated thinking patterns that work against the things of God. We see in the next Scripture we see the enemy coming along after the work had started as response and reaction to a work that was birthed by God in a leader’s heart, but the positive outcome was that the believers were watchful and prayed.

Nehemiah 4:7  And it happened, when Sanballat and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem had gone up, and that the breaks were being filled, they were very angry. 8 And all of them conspired together to come and fight against Jerusalem and do harm to it. 9 But we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them. The servants of God need to watch and pray. A believer may receive a revelation from the Holy Spirit about what is about to take place, or what possible changes may be needed, but before any action is taken, the matter must be submitted to the leadership, as the key words in the above,’ “we made…” this indicate consultation. The word came to the leader who imparted it to the people. The enemy came along in reaction to steal the people’s peace, but the leaders came back with a word and settled it with an action.

Nehemiah 4:17 the ones who built on the wall, and the ones who carried burdens; with those who were lifting, one a worker in the work, and one held a weapon.18  For of the builders, each one had his sword tied by his side, and built. And he who sounded the trumpet was beside me. (MKJV)

God never bypasses the leader, but if the leader is not listening, God may talk to one who is listening. Nevertheless, that person ought never to operate independently. The leader of a team alone is accountable to God for the wellbeing of the local church. The team members are responsible and have a duty to love and care for each other, but in some cases this does not happen. The leader’s concern should be for the wellbeing of all in his care.

Hebrews 13:16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.17 Yield to those leading you, and be submissive, for they watch for your souls, as those who must give account, that they may do it with joy and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you. (MKJV)

An example; I led a team of people to India on a missionary journey and while one of the team was preaching in a small church, a well-meaning brother started praying for the people at the back of the room. His action disrupted the meeting. It is not easy to be a leader, but it is God who puts people in positions of leadership and authority. The plan for the service had been discussed and was being followed up to this point. The aim was to bring teaching, preaching and healing according to the format that Jesus followed. We had planned to conclude with an altar call for salvation, and then a call for prayer for healing. As the leader, I had to ask the man to stop praying and wait to the end of the preaching. He did not understand that his behaviour was disorderly, or that he had no authority to change the plan we had collectively made.

1 Thessalonians 5:12  And, brothers, we beseech you to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and who admonish you, 13  and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. (MKJV)

That team member, although meaning well, needed to understand that he would be judged by God and the team leaders for his behaviour in disrupting the meeting which may cause someone to miss a blessing.

Each member has to surrender his own wishes for the benefit of the team. Each of us have a part to play and each part is very important. Failing to work as a team can be caused by:

1. Lack of teaching on how to function in a team
2. Selfishness, which indicates a desire to take the glory. This is nothing less than idolatry
3. Rebellion of authority

The true origin of this statement has been lost over history, but it may belong to an early Collingwood football team[2], but it is a sporting truth “A champion team can beat a team of champions”. A champion team works together as a whole or as a collective synergy. With a team of champions, the whole is fragmented into individuals doing their own thing, each champion seeking his own glory. We each have a part to play and each part is important to the proper functioning of the team, therefore we have a champion team.

The Kingdom of God is a Theocracy

A Theocracy is Government by God – a community governed by God through His ministers (priests). It is not a tyrannical rule, but pastoral caring. Some have said this can only happen when Christ returns, but the concept needs to be understood so that efforts in achieving this goal can be identified or accepted.

Now what does that mean to us as believers?

**One: the Body of Christ, the Church is a group of believers from all different backgrounds with different ideas. However we need to learn God’s way of doing things. One of those things is that our meetings should not be disorderly. If they are not in order, the devil has a foothold. Remember the Apostle said, “Neither give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27).

1 Corinthians 14:40 But everything must be done in a proper and orderly way. (ISV)

The Government of God works down from the top to the believer, that means from Jesus to the five ministry gifts, then to the elders, designated leaders, the deacons, and so to the brethren. That does not mean God will not talk through His body the Church, but we must remember what Jesus said in Luke 7:28.

Luke 7:28 For I say to you, among those who are born of woman there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. (MKJV)

Example, the Centurion

The centurion, when asking Jesus to heal his servant, explained the order of command in the Roman army and, then he compared it to the order in the Kingdom of God. Jesus marvelled that a non-believer should understand this dynamic of faith.

Matthew 8:5 And when Jesus had entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, beseeching Him, 6 and saying, Lord, my son lies at home paralyzed and grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus says to him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my boy will be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, Go! And he goes; and to another, Come! And he comes; and to my servant, Do this! And he does it. 10 When Jesus heard, He marvelled and said to those who followed, Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, Go. And as you have believed, so let it be to you. And his boy was healed in that hour.

The centurion had faith in the structure and the line of command in God’s Kingdom. He knew that Jesus was under the headship of God, and that is why he knew that Jesus could do the mighty things.

SUBMISSION

The question I ask is: why, if Jesus has given us all authority; why do some Christians not move in the full power of the anointing?

• Submission to God.
• Submission to the Holy Spirit.
• Submission to your husbands and husbands to your wife
• Submission to your parents.
• Submission to your home group leaders.
• Submission to your pastors.
• Submission to each other or one another

Please note that submission does not mean absolute blindness as each situation should be evaluated based on, ‘are the people you are placing yourself into submission to moving in accordance to the Word of God. Our primary submission is to God and not to a person who may cause separation from God or in some cases danger to the individual.

The order in The Kingdom of God can be viewed in the list following, my intention is not to say someone is better or greater than another in the Church. We are all equal in the eyes of God, but when we are in the Church or church-planting we all have different jobs to do. If we recognise the importance of teamwork the whole unit will function as it was designed.

1. God is the head of the of the Kingdom of God
2. Jesus is the head of the Church.
3. Five-fold ministry gifts and elders
4. Designated leaders (deacons)
5. The Brethren (followers, ‘sheep’, people)
6. Finally, in our initial preparation for cross-cultural church planting, it is essential to understand what we are presenting such as structure and how confronting it will be to some existing cultures. Denominational structure in this case may in many cases detrimental, therefore we need to be careful of what is we presenting.

We should endeavour to understand a culture before we attempt to connect it with God’s way of life. One recommendation is look for the elements, which already exist in a culture, and which represent God’s cultural behaviour pattern. Focus on developing an understanding in these areas and then slowly show the differences between God’s culture and some local practices. When working with colleagues from other countries and cultures we should endeavour to do some cultural development diversity-training program[1] to avoid frustration, which would reflect the strategy of the early Church.

The world is full of media outlets bringing the news almost as soon as it happens, with Sports-people, Actors, Politicians, Musicians, Religious figures and other personalities dying almost daily.

When we look at their lives in many cases, but not all, they have lived a life of delusion in whatever form it takes, ego, drugs, sex, control and etc.

They may have been filmed cuddling a monkey, dog and even wanted to save the whales also they may have been active in changing some injustices; which are all worthy efforts. Some people think how wonderful they are and even idolize them in some form.  Some Christians, even quote these people’s words even when it contradicts the Bible and say they are wise.

“BUT”

When we look closely at these personalities we find out that many have rejected the Christian faith and even publicly denounced Jesus Christ and or the Christian way of life. In the past I had done some of the same things as many of them did, but thank God, I didn’t overdose causing my own death on my way to finding Jesus.

I was almost lost in the religion of self, but I was given a chance by God, and I know everyone gets that chance somewhere in life.

When I see Christians idolizing these people on their posts, blogs etc, I am grieved because we are not looking close enough and are misled by the media and by our own choice. When we idolize these people we are also leading younger Christian astray by saying these are great people.

My question is, “Who is your champion?”

For me, Jesus is the only one who personifies perfection in all fields of endeavour; “He is my champion!”

I have other smaller champions too, like my pastor, teachers, mentors and small people all over the Body of Christ the Church praying, who have all given their lives to saving people from hell, but I don’t idolize them, I love them.

My Champion of Champions is Jesus!

We are moved by so many contacting us telling us they are thinking and praying for Liya. From our hearts we want to say thank you. She is so special to us. Thank you so much.

The doctors said Liya has a bird flu virus and they have her on a drip. The virus is aggressive and causes face paralyses where one side of the face does not move. They say after a week on the drip the virus should be gone but the face paralyses could take a lot loner to recover. We will let you know of any further developments.

We are thankful to the Lord Jesus for what He has done.
