“Why YOU should not become a Christian!” by Dr. Ian Traill

I count it an honour and a privilege to be asked to edit this latest book by Dr. Ian Traill, “Why you should not become a Christian”. It is a rebuttal of Bertrand Russell’s, book, “Why I am not a Christian”.

I have known Ian for well over a decade now. Many are the times that we have engaged in intellectual and spiritual ‘sparring’. And as his ‘sparring partner’, I have had my own conservative views modified. But I think also that Ian’s own views have been sharpened by the differences we have expressed to each other. There is a fascinating verse in the Book of Proverbs, “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17).

Ian’s ideas are sometimes controversial and challenging, but always impossible to ignore. He is fearless in challenging the intellectual giants of our time, whether theological or philosophical. He respects no ‘sacred cows”, no matter how well entrenched or well-established they may be.

In this volume Ian tackles head-on, the ‘straw man’ arguments of philosopher, Bertrand Russell against Christianity. When you read it, prepare to be challenged. In this fight, Ian ‘takes no prisoners’. He is uncompromising in his proclamation of what he sees as the truth, especially the truth of Scripture.
